Kitsune, the mythical Japanese Fox. The list of stories associated with them is looooong, although an awful lot of the time refers to one of them shapeshifting into a lady and seducing married men. Not the most believable excuse I've ever heard, although it's obviously worked a few times as its been around for centuries. When a fox turns 100, it is believed to gain wisdom and an extra tail. This carries on until they're 1000 and as they gain their final ninth tail they transform into a white or golden Tenko, their most powerful form, and ascend to the heavens. Oh, they also gain the ability to see and hear everything that's happening anywhere in the world. Bit like Twitter.
