  • Dreamscapes and Whimsical Worlds

Tom Lewis crafts vibrant, otherworldly artworks that blend traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern pop culture and neon-lit urban landscapes. His distinctive style features cute cartoon-like characters navigating surreal environments filled with glowing signs, ethereal smoke, and fantastical elements. Lewis's work is a mesmerizing fusion of the ancient and futuristic, inviting viewers into richly detailed realms where kawaii meets cyberpunk in a riot of color and imagination.

The Neon Beasts are something of a side project, his usual work looks more like this:

  • In late 2018, a commissioned wildlife mural project for a Walthamstow development unexpectedly fell through, leaving him with a 30-meter digital painting that diverged significantly from his usual style. Faced with this creative challenge, Tom decided to repurpose his work. In early 2019, he embarked on a month-long project, creating daily artworks that blended the digital animals with unfinished studio paintings. Incorporating suggestions from his mailing list, Tom produced a series of animal-inspired pieces that evolved into "Neon Beasts Vol. 1".

Each day, a print was released at half-price for 24 hours, with a handful of 'facts'. Much to Tom's delight, and horror, they were the fasting selling prints he has ever made. Two months and one nervous breakdown later, he vowed never to repeat the intense process.

Volume 3 was released in 2023, and he is currently pondering the next...

  • Giclée (pronounced "zhee-clay") is a fine art printing process that produces museum-quality reproductions. The term, derived from the French word "gicler" meaning "to spray," refers to the inkjet technology used in the process. Giclée prints are created using specialized large-format printers that spray microscopic droplets of pigment-based ink onto high-quality archival paper or canvas. This method allows for exceptional color accuracy, tonal depth, and longevity, often lasting over 100 years without significant fading when properly cared for.
